Speed of Namo Bharat Train

The Namo Bharat is an Indian-made electric train developed for the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), designed and manufactured entirely in the country. As part of the first phase of the NCRTC’s three-corridor plan, the Delhi–Meerut Corridor has become the first key route where the Namo Bharat is operational. The train was officially introduced on 20 October 2023, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi–Meerut line, initially running between Sahibabad and Duhai stations. In the future, the same modern trainsets are expected to be deployed across other proposed Namo Bharat routes.

Namo Bharat Train Speed

As part of the Make in India initiative, the Delhi Meerut High Speed Train’s trainsets were planned for local manufacturing to strengthen domestic production capabilities. In 2019, the NCRTC (National Capital Region Transport Corporation) invited tenders for the procurement of trainsets, and by early 2020, the contract was awarded to Bombardier Transportation (later acquired by Alstom) to manufacture the trainsets at Savli.

The Delhi Meerut High Speed Train Namo Bharat was designed by the French rolling stock manufacturer Alstom at its engineering centre in Hyderabad, Telangana, and manufactured at its modern facility in Savli, Gujarat. Built with an aerodynamic design, the train reduces air resistance during travel, thereby improving both speed and energy efficiency. On 19 October 2023, the trainset was officially christened “Namo Bharat”, marking a significant milestone in India’s rapid transit development.
