Faridabad’s Smart City project is set to receive a major upgrade as work on the Namo Bharat Train (Regional Rapid Transit System – RRTS) is expected to begin soon after the metro project. According to officials, a Namo Bharat interchange station will be built at Bata Chowk, with the NCRTC (National Capital Region Transport Corporation) survey work nearly complete. This key interchange will also provide direct connectivity to the upcoming Noida International Airport, further strengthening Faridabad’s link with the entire NCR. The proposal is expected to receive cabinet approval next week.
Faster Access to Gurugram, Noida, and Industrial Hubs
Currently, Faridabad faces limited public transport options. Commuters travelling to Gurugram must first reach Delhi’s Rajiv Chowk or Central Secretariat and then change metro lines, often taking two to three hours for a journey that should only take 30 minutes. Cab travel, especially at night, is also considered unsafe for women.
With Noida International Airport set to begin operations next month, the Namo Bharat line will provide seamless travel to Gurugram, Manesar, Dharuhera, Bhiwadi, and Faridabad’s industrial areas, directly benefiting thousands of workers and daily commuters. An FMDA senior official shared that while the project was planned nearly four years ago, it was delayed due to land acquisition and survey hurdles. Recently, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met Union Minister Manohar Lal to request expedited approval to accelerate the project.
Project Revival After Years of Delay
The Namo Bharat interchange plan at Bata Chowk was first conceptualised nearly four years ago, but faced repeated delays due to land acquisition issues and pending surveys. According to the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority (FMDA), these hurdles stalled progress despite the project’s high priority for regional development. Recent meetings between Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Minister Manohar Lal in Delhi have given the project new momentum, with both leaders emphasising the need for faster execution to meet the growing transport demands of NCR commuters. Cabinet approval, expected in the coming week, is likely to clear the final administrative roadblocks and set the stage for construction to begin.
With this revival, Faridabad is poised to become a major transport hub in the NCR, offering direct, high-speed links to Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram while easing pressure on existing metro and road networks. Once operational, the Namo Bharat line will not only shorten travel times but also encourage economic growth by improving access to key employment centres, business districts, and upcoming infrastructure projects like the Noida International Airport. Local industries in Gurugram, Manesar, and Bhiwadi are expected to benefit from a more reliable workforce commute, while residents will gain a safer and more efficient alternative to road travel, marking a significant leap in Faridabad’s urban transformation.
