Rising Rush on Namo Bharat in Meerut: Passengers Demand More Coaches and Reduced Train Interval

The Namo Bharat train service between Meerut and Delhi has become highly popular among daily commuters. However, the growing passenger volume—especially during morning and evening peak hours—has led to overcrowding, making it difficult for many travellers to find seats. Due to this rising demand, passengers are calling for additional coaches and shorter train intervals.

The six-coach Namo Bharat train currently includes one reserved coach for women and one premium coach. The remaining four general coaches witness the maximum rush. Regular commuters have urged NCRTC to add at least 2 more coaches to ensure a smoother, more comfortable travel experience. Presently, trains operate at an interval of 10 minutes, but considering the swelling crowd, passengers are requesting that this be reduced to 5 minutes.

Demand for New Services Between Meerut South and Modinagar

There is also growing demand to start Namo Bharat and metro connectivity between Meerut South and Modinagar. A resident of TP Nagar stated that people now expect both rapid rail and metro services in Meerut, and increasing the number of coaches has become essential due to the heavy rush.

A Passenger from Kanker Khera shared that boarding the train between 8 AM and 10 AM has become extremely challenging. A significant number of commuters prefer Namo Bharat due to frequent delays in traditional Indian Railways services, further increasing the load on the rapid rail system.

NCRTC May Further Reduce Train Interval

According to NCRTC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Namo Bharat trains initially operated at an interval of 15 minutes, which was later reduced to 10 minutes to meet rising passenger demand. He assured that if the passenger count continues to grow, the frequency could be improved further—possibly reducing the interval to as low as 3 minutes. Additionally, the possibility of increasing coach capacity is also under consideration.

Overall, the rising popularity of Namo Bharat is a positive sign, but the surge in passenger numbers highlights the need for better frequency and additional coaches to ensure a seamless and efficient travel experience for all commuters.
